About Dr. Jennifer L. Ferguson
I don’t remember how or when I decided that I wanted to be a doctor, my mother says that is the only answer I ever gave to the “when I grow up” question. So here I am, all grown up and a doctor. I am the oldest of four children, both of my sisters are also doctors and my brother is an engineer. I started out as a surgical resident, but changed to obstetrics/gynecology because I wanted to see my patients throughout their lives. I initially worked for other people and for ECU School of Medicine, but opened my own practice in 2003. I started Carolina Women’s Physicians because I believed that there was something missing in women’s health care- a small practice where patients are able to get to know their doctor, establish a relationship with the office and staff. Our small size allows us to focus on patients as individuals and to tailor our care to the patient’s specific needs. This means that your care is always personal, provided by someone who knows you and is focused on your health and safety.
I grew up in Texas, and went to college at Texas A&M (graduated with my BS in 1987). I graduated from medical school at Texas Tech University (1992), and moved to North Carolina for residency training. I did two years of general surgery residency (ECU). I then changed to Ob/Gyn and finished residency training in 1997 from ECU School of Medicine, Department Obstetrics/Gynecology. I worked in private practice for two years and then for the ECU School of Medicine for 4 years. While I worked for the school of medicine, I also went to ECU College of Business and graduated with my MBA in 2003. This extra training makes it easier for us to help patients navigate the business of medicine. It also reinforced the need for customer service in health care.
A woman’s health care is often relegated to the end of her list, something she does after taking care of everyone else. At Carolina Women’s Physicians, we try to make it easy and comfortable for you to take care of yourself. I try to reinforce the importance of health maintenance and viewing your doctor as your advocate no matter what issues you might be facing. I understand the stress of being a professional woman in the workplace and the difficulties of juggling home, family and career. Our goal is to provide you with personalized, flexible, easy to access care. We want women to put themselves at the top of the list, so that we are all in better shape to face the world. I have been a patient as well. I understand how overwhelming this can be. It is our goal always to support you through your time as a patient, with compassion and caring. As a small practice, we can ensure that the staff knows your name, knows your issues and can help with your specific issues. You are never just a number to us.
One of the best parts of being an Obstetrician/gynecologist, especially in a small town, is being able to foster relationships with patients over the course of their lives. I enjoy taking care of women of all ages, and continuity of care is one of the best parts of our specialty and a small practice. I am now seeing babies that I delivered become young women and begin to plan their own futures. No description would be complete without saying that it has been my privilege to work with Sarah Miller since 2006, first as a nurse at the hospital and then here in this office. I learn something new from her every day. She is funny, compassionate and bright. She is devoted to her patients and to providing them with the best possible care.
When I am not in the office, you can usually find me in my garden covered in dirt and surrounded by flowers. My puppies are most often out there with me, trying to eat me veggies without getting caught. I have four wonderful nephews and one exceptional niece, two lovely goddaughters; and I enjoy all of my time with the crazy small ones. I am ever so lucky to have two fabulous sisters and an excellent brother. We talk to each other almost every day, no matter how busy. These kinds of lifelong relationships are the basis of my personal and professional life.

About Sarah Miller, FNP
Taking care of ourselves is sometimes difficult as women but it is definitely important! Part of this is keeping up with your annual women’s health exam. I strive to provide a relaxed and supportive environment to make this part of keeping up with your health maintenance as low stress as possible.
I enjoy working with women of all ages – from adolescence to pregnancy and on through menopause. I have a special interest in adolescent/young woman care. As a girl mom I understand the challenges that this season of life can bring.
I graduated in 2001 with my BSN from Purdue University. I went on to work as labor delivery nurse and community health nurse in Indianapolis until 2006. In 2005 I graduated from the University of Indianapolis with my MSN with a midwifery concentration. Even though I ultimately decided not to pursue midwifery, this course of study provided me with invaluable education and experience that I continue to use. I moved to Greenville in 2006 and worked on the antepartum and postpartum unit at Vidant. I received my postmasters certificate from the family nurse practitioner program at ECU in 2010. After graduation, I joined Dr. Ferguson at Carolina Women’s Physicians.
When I am not in the office, you can find me spending time with my family, including my two girls. When we are not at swim meets or tennis practice you can most likely find us at the beach or just enjoying some quiet time.
